[Blaino] Vietnam Grows:::: The leading country among frontier markets has been expanding faster than most emerging markets. Vietnam's GDP has grown 7.2 percent annually on average since 2000. Still, the country's benchmark VN Index (VNINDEX) tumbled 27 percent in 2011 as consumer prices surged as much as 23 percent, the fastest pace in Asia. Stocks in the emirates of Dubai and Abu Dhabi trade at some of the cheapest levels worldwide. The Dubai Financial Market General Index (DFMGI) was valued at 6.7 times analysts' profit estimates at year-end, while the ADX General Index traded for 7.5 times, compared with a global average of 10 times, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. "Valuations are at historic lows," says Fadi Al Said, senior investment manager at ING Investment Management in Dubai. "And the businesses are actually doing well."

This article really captured my attention – and I don’t know if it was because VN was ranked among the hottest economies or that Iraq was ranked number 1?? In any event – this should put the LOPsters to bed. Typically the “unnamed” three lettered word is reserved for currency scenarios where the economy is on a serious downward slide and they are attempting to “instill” confidence in the currency and make transactions easier. READ MORE CLICK RIGHT 6-7-2012 Newshound Guru Historian I heard a rumor today that the VND was no longer an exotic currency. Either the source is using the term "exotic" very loosely, or there has been a radical change in the global model of currencies. Or it is just a rumor. Currencies are either major or exotic. If theoretically the VND were no longer an exotic currency, then a radical change would have to have occurred in the global model of currencies whereby investors, institutions and countries would now buy and sell the VND to diversify and hedge their currency holdings. I hope the rumor is true because it would mean not only that the VND has RV’d but that we have a radical change in the currency model. But I would be very happy if the VND simply continued as an exotic currency and just RV’d.
